The Guru and the FARC
As part of his global initiatives for peace, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar traveled in June 2015 to Bogotá, Colombia and Havana, Cuba to meet president Santos, victims of the armed conflict in Colombia and FARC peace delegation.
Gurudev explained to the FARC leaders the importance of following the Gandhian principle of non-violence. Without surrender or give up their ideals, continuing the struggle through peaceful resistance.
He explained; “In this conflict, everybody is a victim”. For the first time maybe in their life, the FARC leaders meditated and later learned breathing techniques.
“The Peace has to be signed between two opposite but also needs to be felt within.”
Iván Marquez, FARC Peace delegation leader, confirmed the influence that Gurudev had on the declaration of the cease of fire. Another FARC member said: “Master, this spiritual knowledge is what we needed.”
On this last 23rd June 2015, President Santos and FARC leader Timochenko met in Havana to signed a historical bilateral cease fire. After 50 years of war in Colombia, this is a big step to unite hearts and minds and strengthen peace.
Gurudev has contributed with his effort to many other people, institutions and countries to help Colombian people find their way back to Peace.
