Gurudev’s entry point reframed the session’s agenda in a new light.
“Prosperity comes with peace. If there is no peace, you can’t have prosperity.”
The conventional tools for connecting three billion people are infrastructure, capital, and policy. Gurudev added a new dimension to the conversation: the mindset of the people those tools are meant to reach. The gap between haves and have-nots, he said, is not only structural. It splits people within countries and even villages. And it speaks to an inner aspect that policy or capital alone cannot close.
He shared a story. At a rural center in India, five hundred unemployed young people were presented with two hundred viable livelihood projects by government officials. They rejected every one. The problem was not the projects. It was the mindset they carried with them: “Why this cannot work.”
They wanted government jobs: bus driver, police officer. Positions that could not absorb them all.
Art of Living volunteers responded with a two-month program designed not just to teach business skills, but to kindle motivation and shift minds from what Gurudev calls victim consciousness to an entrepreneurial one. The same program has run in Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Botswana, and South Africa. “Instead of reeling in a victim consciousness, they now become proactive entrepreneurs.”
“You can’t be in a victim consciousness, or in a culprit consciousness. You have to be in a progressive mindset — in which you see that you have something to contribute to the world, and on the other side, you see the value in sharing.”
AI was the forum’s dominant conversation. Gurudev welcomed it. “AI is a tool. It’s an opportunity. AI can only present what is already present somewhere in the world. So you have to be more original and more creative — and that is what AI beckons you to do.”
But he drew a distinction the room had not heard framed this way before. There are, he said, three kinds of intelligence. The first is the absence of intelligence — visible everywhere, which got a chuckle from the crowd in an otherwise serious event. The second is artificial intelligence. The third is absolute intelligence: the recognition that a unifying consciousness underlies the entire universe, and that this consciousness is what human beings can access and develop. “That power of consciousness, I would say, is absolute intelligence.”
Semafor’s co-founder and CEO Justin B. Smith closed the exchange simply. “You have a choice between the absence of intelligence, artificial intelligence, or absolute intelligence. I would choose the third myself.”
