From being a solution for combating alcoholism to improving communication skills, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar shared insights into the science and practice of yoga at the 20th International Yoga Festival. The audience of yoga enthusiasts, which numbered over 1100, seemed to concur as they experienced a variety of yoga-centric seminars at the four-day festival.
“As violence is connected to alcoholism and substance abuse, we can eradicate the evils if we focus on promoting yoga. It will make our health and society better,” emphasized Gurudev.
The other speakers at the session, which included Lt Governor Virendra Kataria, chief minister N Rangasamy, and welfare minister P Rajavelu, nodded in agreement when Gurudev shared that yoga, meditation, and spiritual knowledge must be made a part of the educational institutions and legal systems. “Yoga and meditation are used in courts in some countries to resolve issues,” said Gurudev.
Touching upon yoga not just as a means to spiritual awakening but also as a means to becoming a stronger individual, Gurudev appealed to people to participate in community welfare—from being a part of the electoral process to conserving water—for an hour a day.
