With a goal of creating a greener, sustainable future, and taking active steps to counter climate change, 5000 Art of Living volunteers created another World Record for making 250,000 seedballs, the largest number of seedballs ever made in a major reforestation initiative, at SVIT campus. The organization is now also in the record books for making the longest formation of a slogan with seedball trays.

These seedballs will be systematically planted and nurtured until fully grown, creating a much needed green cover. In the seedball method, the seeds are encased in a ball of soil, clay or compost. It requires less maintenance; is easy to practice and is cheap. This technique can be used to plant seeds even in difficult terrains.

The event was graced by the Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Hon. Governor of Gujarat, Shri Acharya Devrat. Gurudev was awarded the Certificate for the World Record.

In his address, Gurudev touched upon the importance of preserving indigenous seeds to free the Indian farmers from the dependence on commercially bought seed varieties. Citing seed planting as a divine act, Gurudev shared “Lord Krishna said, ‘I am the seed that is eternal. I am the basis of life. I am in the hunger in a person’s stomach’ and that’s why in the land of Lord Krishna, Annakoot and Annadaan has been given so much importance. For Annadaan to be fruitful, the grain (anna) should be good and for the grain to be good the seed quality should be good.” Acknowledging the effort of making seed bombs he further said, “Today while bombs are being dropped everywehre on earth to destroy life, you all have created a different type of bomb, that will save life for many years to come.” He said, this effort of preserving seed and growing trees will work as an effective response to the excessive impact of climate change.

Hon. Governor of Gujarat, Shri Acharya Devrat ji seconded Gurudev on the need for training more farmers in natural farming, a traditional method of farming that relies on working in symbiosis with the nature and its principles, uses natural inputs like Panchagavya or the five ingredients we get from the cow, and earthworm cultures , rejuvenating and repleneshing the soil’s nutritional value. On planting seeds he said, “We benefit from planting seeds only when we nurture it for atleast 2 years. You take care of it for two years and then it will take care of you for the rest of your life.”

The event aimed at involving local communities in reforestation initiatives for a greener, more bio diverse and oxygen-rich city. Seed The Earth has been sypported by esteemed organizations such as SVIT Vasad, Amul, CVM, SSRVM Anand, and SPNF, among others with a common vision for a greener and more breathable city.

Whether it is planting a 100 million trees all over the world or rejuvenating over 70 rivers or streams in the country, the Art of Living movement under the Gurudev’s guidance has led initiatives for sustainability and environmental conservation from the front, mobilizing and inspiring lakhs of people towards enviornmental action.

Gurudev is currently on a five day tour of Gujarat, that started with grand Diwali celebrations at Karnavati Club, Ahmedabad where 7000 attendees soaked in the sacred vibrations of Mahalakshmi Homa, satsang and most precious knowledge from Gurudev. The five day tour promises to unite thousands in Gujarat through a unique blend of spirituality, wisdom and environmental action, fostering harmony, gratitude, and a commitment to a greener, more prosperous future for all.
